The Story Behind Post Oak Builds

Founder Story
Why a Software Engineer Started a Construction Company
It started with a gut renovation in South Austin in 2017. Two bathrooms stripped to the studs, a full kitchen remodel, all-new flooring throughout the house. I did most of it myself. Somewhere between demolition and the final tile install, I realized I loved it.
That first house turned into more. In 2020, my wife and I bought an empty lot in NW Austin and I set out to design a home from the ground up, working through every detail of the floor plan, the finishes, and the systems. Around the same time, I started McGary Woodworks, building cutting boards and furniture before graduating to custom built-ins: closets, laundry rooms, cabinetry. In our newly built home, I built out the master closet with custom millwork, converted a powder room into a full shower, and GC'd the design and build of our pool and deck.
This year, we bought our next home. I'm currently managing a $250K remodel: full kitchen gut, living room expansion with load-bearing wall removal and new steel beams, and a whole-home lighting upgrade on Lutron's RadioRA3 system.
I'm not a licensed plumber or electrician. But I've done the work, I understand the trades, and I know exactly what it takes to manage a full-scope construction project from a blank page to a finished home.
That hands-on experience, combined with a career in software engineering where process and communication aren't optional, is what Post Oak Builds is built on. I started this company because I fell in love with construction, and because I want to help other homeowners bring their own ideas to life the right way.

The Problem
What We're Here to Fix
Hiring a contractor is one of the highest-stakes decisions a homeowner makes. You're inviting someone into your home, trusting them with your budget, and betting your timeline on their word.
Most of the friction comes from ambiguity. A scope that was never written down clearly, an allowance that didn't account for what the client actually wanted, a change that happened verbally and got remembered differently by both sides.
We fix that before the project starts.
Every scope we build is detailed down to the individual fixture, finish, and design choice. We'll sit with you and work through every selection: the faucet, the tile, the lighting trim kit, before a single number goes on paper. It takes longer to put a bid together that way. That's the point. When you sign a contract with Post Oak Builds, there's no ambiguity about what you're getting. No allowances that quietly balloon. No surprises mid-demo.
Once the project is underway, we keep it that way. Every change, no matter how small, goes through a written change order before work proceeds. And we send weekly updates whether you ask for them or not.
It's not complicated. It's just not how most contractors operate.
Our Standard
What You Can Expect
Document everything.
Scope, change orders, decisions, selections: in writing, always. You'll never wonder what was agreed to.
Communicate before you have to ask.
Every week, you'll get a written summary of what's happening on your project and what to expect in the coming days. If something changes, a material delay, a trade conflict, a decision that needs your input, you hear it from us the moment we know. Not at the end of the week. Not when you notice something is off.
Arrive when we say we will.
Your time matters. We give 30-minute arrival windows for service calls, realistic timelines for projects, and we stick to them.
Stand behind the work.
Our sub network is vetted. If something isn't right at the end of a job, we make it right. No disappearing acts.
Georgetown Roots
Why Georgetown
We chose Georgetown the same way a lot of families do. Small-town feel, strong community, close enough to Austin without being consumed by it. My wife, our daughters, and I are putting down roots here, in the same neighborhoods where our clients live, at the same schools, at the same local spots.
That matters to how we operate. When you hire a contractor who lives down the road, their reputation isn't abstract. It's personal. We're not chasing volume across five counties. We're building a business in a place we've chosen to call home, and every project either adds to that reputation or doesn't.
Georgetown is one of the fastest-growing cities in the country. The homeowners moving here are investing seriously in their properties, and they deserve a contractor who's invested in the same community.
The Team
Who Does the Work
Post Oak Builds is owner-operated. When you hire us, you work directly with Sean, not a salesperson who hands you off to a crew you've never met.
For specialized trades, we work with a vetted network of licensed subcontractors: electricians, plumbers, HVAC techs, tile setters, framers. Every one of them is licensed, insured, and held to the same standard we hold ourselves to.
As we grow, that team grows with us. Carefully.
